Our goal for orientation is to help make this exciting transition as safe and smooth as possible. We’ll provide you with the information you need to rise and succeed as a new Phoenix. 

Canvas is an online course management tool that professors will utilize to display course-related content. This is the platform you will use to access the New Student Orientation modules. All the modules will be available beginning July 29th.

Orientation must be completed by August 21st.

Yes. Orientation is a requirement for all new students and should be completed no later than Aug 21st. You can do all the orientation modules at once, or complete them a little at a time - however you choose to learn, be sure you’re all done by the 21st.

Yes. Orientation will count as a grade in your Foundations in Scholarship and Learning (FSL) class, which means you’ll want to be sure to allow enough time to complete all of the modules before your first day of class. Who doesn’t like the idea of getting an A on the first day?

Technology Toolbox

Using technology effectively is more important than ever. In this module, you’ll learn best practices for CAMS and Canvas, how to utilize the CU App and how to print anywhere on campus. You’ll also learn what to do if your technology resources aren’t working properly and who to contact with any technical difficulties.

CROP

In this module, the Campus Reopening Planning Team (CROP) will inform you of the COVID-19 precautions that we are taking to ensure our CU family stays as safe as possible this semester. You’ll learn how to check your symptoms daily before coming to campus, how to slow the spread of the virus and what is expected of you as a CU student.

Campus Safety

In this module, you’ll learn helpful tips for staying safe on campus, the campus resources available to you and the safety policies in place at CU. You will also learn how to respond if there was an active shooter on campus.  

Mental Health & Wellness - Student Panel

In this module, you’ll learn from a panel of students about common mental health concerns in college. They’ll cover what warning signs and symptoms you should be aware of, healthy ways of coping and the campus resources available to you. 

Academic Integrity

In this module, you’ll learn about your academic expectations and common issues students may face when transitioning from high school to college. You’ll learn what your academic responsibilities are as a student, the academic integrity policies and violation procedures, and the best ways to work with your professors.

Financial Literacy

In this module, you’ll learn basic financial literacy and your financial responsibilities while a CU student including how to pay your student bill and “get official” each semester. 

Be the VIP: Violence Intervention & Prevention

In this module, you’ll receive Violence, Intervention and Prevention training on sexual assault to create a campus culture that is safe for all members. You’ll receive bystander intervention training and learn about sexual violence and assault, what to do if you are a victim, and how to report to confidentially report a crime.

Stop the Stigma: Alcohol & Drug Awareness

In this module, you’ll learn about the true sources of addiction and how to recognize if you or someone you know is in an active addiction. You’ll learn about what resources are available to you and how you can help stop the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery. 

Peer Real Talk

Our President’s Ambassadors were in your shoes just a few years ago. In this module, you’ll hear from current CU students on effective time management skills, what it takes to be a successful college student and learn more about campus and student life. They’ll also answer any questions you may have about starting college at CU. 

Campus Resources

We want you to get the most out of your CU experience! In this module, you’ll learn about all the resources available to help you succeed throughout your time at CU, from tutoring and library resources to career and counseling services.

Mark your calendar for August 13th at 11 am! We’ll be going LIVE to welcome you and all your fellow Phoenix to CU! These online sessions are very important and are a requirement for all new students to attend.

Starting at 11:00 am on August 13, 2020, you and the rest of the class of 2024 will all come together to watch the LIVE Welcome Session!  

Remember attendance is expected for this event. It will be an important step to start your first year of college at CU!

Each module has a topic-specific assessment that must be completed to receive module credit. Your progress will be tracked for a grade in your Foundations in Scholarship and Learning (FSL) class. Your final orientation grade will be posted in your FSL Canvas course.

Yes. Attendance is required and will count as part of your final orientation grade.

Not only is this a great opportunity to meet some of our campus leadership, it is essential to your success as a CU student to develop a strong relationship with your academic advisor. 

CU launched a Quality Enhancement Plan called CU Succeed. This plan is designed to foster strong campus relationships and aid your success as a student all the way to graduation and beyond! 

One of the first steps in this process is to connect with your academic advisor and learn how they can help you succeed. They are your guide for navigating the ins and outs of your degree requirements and CU campus resources. You should meet with your advisor at least once each semester to discuss your short and long-term goals and when considering changes that may affect your academic career or if you are experiencing any academic difficulties. 

One of your first assignments in your Foundations in Scholarship and Learning (FSL) class will be to write a reflection on your advisor session. Additionally, you’ll get to meet fellow students in your academic program and make connections with people you’ll likely share several classes with. You won’t want to miss this big first step in your CU journey.

Session 2: Academic Department Meeting

During this session you’ll meet the faculty in your program, learn important information about your program and the resources available to you. You’ll also find what labs, clinicals, internships and workshops apply to your program and what to expect in the coming year. 

Session 3: Virtual Advisor Group 

The final session will be the Academic Adviser Meeting. In this group session you’ll hear from your academic advisor and discuss the advising process and your specific responsibilities within that relationship.
