When does the Fall 2023 semester start?
The first day classes begin on Monday, August 21, 2023. The Fall 2023 Academic Calendar and many important academic dates can be found on the Cumberland University website.

When am I supposed to move into my residence hall if I am an athlete?
Move in day for athletes begins Wednesday, July 26. Visit Residence Life and Housing for more information.

When am I supposed to move into my residence hall if I am a new student?
Move-in day for new students is Thursday, August 17. Visit Residence Life and Housing for more information.

Will there be anyone available to help me move into my residence hall room?
For several hours on Thursday, volunteers from each residence hall will be available to assist with move-in, to include helping with unloading vehicles. Welcome Crew is only available for the Fall semester move-in.

Am I required to attend Orientation?
Yes. Orientation is a requirement for all new students under the age of 24.

Do I need to check-in for Orientation prior to kick-off?
Yes. Orientation check-in will begin at 9:00 AM outside of the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena, located on Cumberland’s main campus.

When should the online portion of Orientation be completed?
The first part of orientation is a requirement for all new students and should be completed no later than August 22nd. You can do all the orientation modules at once, or complete them a little at a time – however you choose to learn, be sure you’re all done before the first day of class on August 22nd.

Does Part 1 of Orientation count as a grade?
Yes. Part one of Orientation will count as a grade in your Foundations in Scholarship and Learning (FSL) class, which means you’ll want to be sure to allow enough time to complete all of the modules before your first day of class. Who doesn’t like the idea of getting an A on the first day?

What if something comes up and I am unable to attend orientation?
We understand that sometimes plans change, please call our office at (615) 547-1206 to speak with a university representative about your situation. Orientation is a requirement for all new students, so please make every effort to attend.

Will there be lunch options available on Friday, August 18th?
Yes, lunch will be provided to students in attendance during Orientation on Friday, August 18th.

Will I have a chance to meet some of my professors prior to the first day of class?
Yes. You will have the opportunity to meet and interact with many CU faculty members throughout orientation.

What is Canvas and how do I login?
Canvas is an online course management tool that professors will utilize to display course-related content. This is also the platform you will use to access the New Student Orientation modules.
To login, visit https://cumberland.instructure.com/login and enter your student email (example JSmith12@students.cumberland.edu) and email password. You’ll be prompted to accept an invitation to the “Orientation Fall ‘23” course. Select the green accept button at the top of the screen and you’re ready to go! If you have trouble accessing Canvas or your student email, please email support@cumberland.edu.

Do I need a parking pass to park on campus?
If you are planning on parking on campus, whether you’ll be living in a residence hall or commuting, you’ll need to register your vehicle with Residence Life to receive an official CU parking decal. Once you complete the Vehicle Registration form, you can pick up your parking decal from the Residence Life Office located in Labry Hall, Room 131 during Orientation.

Where am I allowed to park on campus?
Parking lots are labeled by color which corresponds with the campus parking decals. You are permitted to park in lots that match your parking decal color. You will receive a parking map when you pick up your parking decal at Residence Life.
Sometimes parking lots fill up. If you can’t find a spot in your designated lot on campus, you can park at
- Immanuel Baptist Church: 214 Castle Heights Ave
- St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church: 300 S Tarver Ave
Our shuttle service will bring you to and from campus. Campus shuttles will run during day time hours and pick up at designated stops around campus. If you intend to take the campus shuttle, please wait at the designated stops to ensure the route runs smoothly.
