In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, CU has officially transitioned all of our on-ground classes online to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation of social distancing. 

Even though the learning format has changed, you can still succeed and end the semester on a high note! 

Here are some ways that you can manage the learning curve: 

• Keep the same schedule: One of the biggest challenges you will face with online courses is learning to manage your time. One way to combat that is to log on to your class programming at the same time you would be in that class in person. This can help you stay on top of your assignments and allow you to create a workflow similar to that of being on campus.
• Utilize a planner: Use your planner or a calendar to keep up with upcoming assignments! It’s easy to let due dates sneak up on you when you aren’t in class each week, so write them down and check daily to see what’s coming up.
• Create a learning space: When you’re in class on campus, you’re at a desk or table in a classroom. Create the same atmosphere at home by dedicating a place to do all of your coursework! Choose a space that’s free of distractions and one that you can use each day.
• Stay focused: You wouldn’t watch Netflix while you’re in a lecture, so treat your online courses the same. Put away your phone and turn off the TV while you work on your assignments.
• Use your resources: When you’re on campus you have academic resources available to you, such as tutoring. CU has made the same resources available online! You can still access tutoring, the writing center and the library. Check the Phoenix News and the CU app for updated information on these services and how to use them. If you feel like you need to talk with someone, remote counseling is available through our school counselor, Eddie Christian, at echristian@cumberland.edu. You can also receive counseling services through the TalkCampus app. 
• Stay connected: Keep in contact with your professors and fellow classmates throughout the rest of the semester. They are your best source of information and are there to help! 
• Be patient: Continue to be patient with your professors and CU staff as they learn how to navigate this constantly changing situation. This will be a time of challenges and new experiences, so stay positive and be willing to cooperate!

Start each day by putting your best foot forward and end it knowing you gave it your all. Like the Phoenix, we will rise through this time together!
