Cumberland University Announces Second Annual Fine Arts Camp

The Cumberland University Community Arts Council proudly announces the second annual Camp Fame (Fine Arts Matter in Education), a fine arts summer camp for middle school and high school students taught by local artists, musicians and educators.

Designed to sharpen skills in band, choir, dance, theater and art, the camp serves as a launching pad for students wishing to progress their fine arts skills.

This year the camp will be held from June 20 through 24, and will conclude on June 25 with a showcase performance featuring all the students participating in the arts concentrations throughout the week.

“The fine arts help lay the foundation for some of the most formative years in a child’s life,” says Camp Fame Director and Founder of Catherine’s Orchestra for All Erin Rheinscheld. “With so much of the world changing in the last few years, it’s more important than ever that children and teenagers have this sense of normalcy and creative outlet of the fine arts to express themselves.”

Camp Fame is open to students who are residents of Wilson County with limited spots available to nonresidential students. The camp will be held on Cumberland University’s campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with second through fifth-grade campers attending from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Various concentrations are open to students based on grade level. Art, theater, and dance concentrations are open to rising second through twelfth-grade students; the band concentration is open to rising seventh through twelfth-grade students; and the choir concentration is open to rising ninth through twelfth-grade students.

The registration fee is $35 with limited scholarships available for students. Applicants will be accepted until April 4. Upon acceptance, applicants will be emailed a packet of information including waivers, medical emergency and contact forms to bring to an orientation meeting.

“We had a great turnout of campers last year laying a great foundation to build on, and we are thrilled to be expanding attendance by fifty percent this year,” said Rheinscheld.
