10 Things To Do The Summer Before College
1. Design Your Dorm
This will be your home for at least the next nine months – make it your own! Plan your ideas ahead of time and shop over the summer in order to be prepared for Move-In Day. Check out our website for room dimensions and location information!
2. Get In Contact With Your Roommate
Once you find out who your roommate is, connect with them and begin coordinating your living space. This will allow you to know what you’ll need to bring for your dorm. And, you’ll already have made one friend before arriving to campus!
3. Get To Know Lebanon, TN
Our campus lives in the heart of Lebanon, Tennessee, just 23 miles east of the exciting city of Nashville. Our students become part of a friendly community with a small-town feel and plenty of things to do. A quick trip to the Music City offers students endless options for adventurous dining, sporting events, and live music.
4. Register For Classes
Throughout the summer, CU Admissions hosts many Registration Days during which students come to campus select their class schedules, get information on student life, meet with advisors and more. Attending Registration Day is necessary to be prepared for your Cumberland experience. Learn more about Registration Days here.
5. Find Out When & Where To Buy Textbooks
You can expect to receive your textbook requirements prior to the start of classes. Books can be purchased through our on-campus bookshop, which will be open when students arrive to campus for the fall semester. Access our online bookstore here.
6. Shop For School Supplies
Finding the right school supplies helps you get organized for the upcoming school year. Determine what supplies will make you the most successful then stock up throughout the summer to make sure you’re ready on the first day of classes.
7. Think About Your Major
You don’t have to have it all figured out on the first day. However, you should consider what you’re interested in and try taking introductory courses in those fields. With over 100 academic areas of study, Cumberland provides students the opportunity to pursue their unique passions.
8. Experience Orientation
Orientation is held after Move-In Day during the first week of classes. Throughout the week, students will be able to learn more about how to succeed in college life at Cumberland as well as attend Welcome Week activities designed to bring the entire student body together. Find more information on Fall 2019 Orientation here.
9. Research Student Clubs & Organizations
From Greek life to honor societies and everything in between, Cumberland maintains a diverse and active student organization roster. If you don’t see a club that represents your own distinct interests, you can start one on campus! Learn more about Student Life at CU here.
10. Spend Time With Family & Friends
Take the summer to enjoy time with the people who are closest to you. Make memories with friends from high school and establish plans to keep in touch if you’re going different places. Most importantly, thank all of the people who’ve helped prepare you for college life.
