“Somebody’s Baby,” a play written by Dr. Michael Rex, associate professor of literature at Cumberland University, has been nominated for “Best Original Play in Middle Tennessee” by Broadway World magazine.

“Somebody’s Baby,” is the story of five African-American women dealing with losing family members to police violence. According to Rex, the play offered a raw, unflinching look at the intertwined lives of these women, with lessons about family, love, truth, pain, hope, and the American experience.

“It was gut wrenching and beautiful,” he said.
