Scholarship Fund established in memory of Tyler McChurch

1/27/2015

The family of Tyler McChurch, a former Cumberland University student athlete who died in an automobile accident in 2013, has recently established a scholarship fund in Tyler’s memory.

The McChurch Family

Tyler was a former standout football player at Friendship Christian School and later at Cumberland University. His two brothers Mitchell and Connor also played football at Cumberland under Coach Dewayne Alexander. Tyler’s wife Alexis is a Cumberland alumna.

The fund will assist Wilson County high school graduates who attend Cumberland University with a special emphasis on student athletes who play football. The fund will also help support youth football programs in the county that help develop athletes in the areas of character, skill and leadership and the Cumberland University Athletic program.

Funding of the scholarship will come from the inaugural Tyler McChurch Memorial Golf Tournament that will be held at Five Oaks Country Club on May 18 as well as private gifts. The four-person scramble will be limited to 36 teams. The family expects the golf tournament will become an annual event. Details of the tournament are available online at www.facebook.com/tmacmemorialgolf or by calling 615-598-4067.

Dr. Eaton, the President of Cumberland, stated “We are deeply touched by the family’s wishes to establish this scholarship in Tyler’s memory and we are looking forward to working with them to ensure Tyler’s legacy impacts on our future students.”
