Johnny Lee Park is a lifelong student of art, history, and language. He has supplemented his English, Graphic Design, and Photography/Printmaking degrees with many years of personal creation and research, while simultaneously taking an avid interest in the ways technology and its effect on societies is portrayed in art.

Following graduation from MTSU and Graduate School at the University of Memphis, Johnny has worked as artist, designer, photographer, and instructor, both freelance and at the university level. His visual works have been featured in Nashville Arts magazine as well as in numerous national and local venues including the Frist Art Museum. Craig Garrett is a writer and educator based in rural Tennessee. His fiction has appeared in The Brooklyn RailShotgun Honey, and other places. Craig is also an avid fan of classic films and golden-age television. He’s likely in the middle of a The Twilight Zone marathon as you read this.

Randy Rudder has an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Memphis and an MA in literature from Tennessee State University. He has worked as a TV and documentary producer, an English and journalism professor at TSU, Aquinas College, and Nashville State.

He has authored or edited 4 books and written over 150 articles in popular culture and academic publications He lives in Mt. Juliet with his wife Clare.

Troy Simpson brings over two decades of experience as a human resources practitioner to his role as adjunct instructor.  He spends his time working in his profession and volunteering with organizations that equip individuals and teams by celebrating strengths and pursuing their full potential. As a leader within the retail, healthcare and supply chain industries, Troy has extensive experience in employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, leadership development and succession planning.

He serves as speaker faculty and panelist at multiple industry and academic conferences.  Troy currently holds the position of Senior Director of Human Resources Shared Services and Operations at Dollar General Corporation.  He is enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi’s PhD in Human Capital Development program.  Troy and his family reside in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Dr. James Benjamin (Ben) Johnson serves as the Federal Programs Supervisor in Smith County, overseeing the federal budgets, guiding district and school improvement planning, and coordinating professional learning and development. Dr. Johnson earned his Ed.D at Middle Tennessee State University in Assessment, Learning, and School Improvement.

After being part of the first cohort in Cumberland University’s Instructional Leadership licensure program, where he earned his administrative license, he has played a vital role in school leadership at the high school and district levels, helping lead schools to multiple Reward School designations, SCORE prize acknowledgments, and a National Blue Ribbon for Gap Closure.

In addition to his district supervisor role, Dr. Johnson’s teaching experience includes middle and high school, special education, alternative school, and higher education. He has also served as an assistant principal, executive principal, and district coordinator.

Dr. Johnson comes from a family of educators, as his wife, Kimberly Woodard Johnson, is a graduate of Cumberland University, earning her B.A. and M.ED. in Instructional Leadership.

A 2020 graduate of Cumberland University, Mr. Arnold is excited to return to Lebanon and rejoin the community that means so much to him.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education and completed his Master of Arts in History at Grand Canyon University in 2022.

Mr. Arnold’s professional interests focus primarily on early and antebellum American history.  He has previous teaching experience at the high school and middle school level in school districts across the Upper Cumberland area of middle Tennessee.

Mr. Arnold currently works as a Veterans Service Representative with the Veterans Benefits Administration in the Department of Veterans Affairs in Nashville.”

 

KATHERINE GILLIGAN

Prior to becoming a higher education faculty member, Dr. Katherine Gilligan taught ten years in the P-12 setting.  She served as a special education teacher in the elementary, middle, high and post-high school levels. Her areas of interest include special education, inclusion, assessment, and literacy. She continues to serve as a special education teacher and teacher leader in Sumner County School System at a middle school.

Dr. Gilligan is actively involved in a variety of professional organizations, including the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), The American Association for Teaching and Curriculum (AATC), and the Mid-Western Educational Research Association (MWERA).

At Cumberland University, Dr. Gilligan teaches undergraduate courses for candidates seeking teacher licensure.  She teaches courses related to literacy.  Dr. Gilligan often presents current research projects at professional conferences.

Dr. Gilligan lives in Sumner County with her husband of 9 years, Thomas.  They have three children, Annalise, Theodore and Bernadette, one dog, two cats, three pigs, seven goats, one cow and nineteen chickens.

Leslie Haddock-DeHart began teaching Freshman writing courses at Cumberland University in the fall of 2023. She is an award-winning freelance writer with a B.B.A in Marketing, an M.S. in Digital Marketing & Advertising, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, and plans to begin work on her Ph.D. in Literature in fall 2024.

She has worked as a weekly columnist for The Orange Leader newspaper, as a Buyer & Merchandise Analyst for Zales Jewelers, as an Enrollment & Advising Specialist for Lee University (assisting in the initial start-up of their School of Nursing), and currently manages her social media sites with over 11K followers. She attends Writers Conferences as a hobby and has attended over twenty conferences, in various cities such as New York, Dallas, Atlanta, and Nashville.

Her hobbies include travel, reading, camping with friends, hiking in the Smoky Mountains, volunteering, and spending time with her family and her Maltese. She loves coffee, Minnie Mouse, and anything pink.

MICHAEL MULLINS

Deputy Chief Mullins is a 26- year veteran of the Mt. Juliet Police Department.  Currently serving as second in command and directly oversees the operational functions of the Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations, Canine, Training and Development, and Animal Control divisions.  He is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and day to day activities of the department.

However, most of his career has been spent in investigations.  Deputy Chief Mullins has served as an investigator in both Special Operations and Criminal Investigation Divisions, and eventually led both units.  Deputy Chief Mullins has also served as a general operator, shield operator, and team leader on the Mt. Juliet Police Department’s Special Response Team.  He is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

While serving at the Mt. Juliet Police Department, Deputy Chief Mullins returned to pursue his education receiving his associate degree from Volunteer State Community College, bachelor’s degree from Bethel University, and his graduate degree from Cumberland University in Public Service Management. Additionally, Deputy Chief Mullins is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command, the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director’s Academy.  Moreover, he is a certified department instructor in the fields of de-escalation tactics, field training, less lethal impact munitions, chemical and distraction devices.

Deputy Chief Mullins has also been happily married to his wife Tina Mullins for twenty-four years.  The two have one daughter, Lauren Mullins.  Additionally, they have two dogs Brody and Luna.
