Cumberland’s Campus Gateway Entrance and McClain Circle Project Expected to Complete in Fall 2019

Cumberland University announced today that construction of the new campus gateway entrance and McClain Circle is expected to complete in Fall 2019.

The project, which officially began construction in May 2019, stems from a recent gift from Mrs. Carrie “McClain” Hatfield. In 1892, a portion of the McClain family’s farmland, which spanned 55 acres, became the current site of the Cumberland University McClain Campus.

Located at the northside of campus on W. Spring Street, the new gateway entrance will serve as the primary access point to Cumberland University. McClain Circle will be comprised of new parking, green space with landscaping and sidewalks.

Vice President for Advancement Scott Lawrence is thankful to Mrs. Carrie “McClain” Hatfield for this gift to enhance the Cumberland campus.

“The new campus gateway entrance and McClain circle will drastically change the look and feel of how you enter the Cumberland University McClain campus,” Lawrence said. “We are truly grateful to Mrs. Hatflield and her support of Cumberland.”
