Cumberland University to Offer Guaranteed Nursing Admissions

Nursing Student

Beginning in the fall of 2023, Cumberland University’s nursing program will roll out a Guaranteed Nursing Admissions (GNA) application and policy for the first time in the university’s history. The Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing and Health Professions at Cumberland has a long-standing legacy of leadership and excellence in multidisciplinary healthcare environments. The GNA program will reward students’ previous achievements and dedication to their studies by ensuring a spot for them in the Rudy School upon high school graduation.

Offering GNA to full-time, first-time freshmen allows the university to capture some of the most promising incoming students early in their collegiate search process. High school seniors with an ACT composite score or super score of 25 or above and a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale are eligible to apply and receive guaranteed admission into the program.

“Offering guaranteed nursing admissions is really an opportunity to reward incoming students for their academic success thus far,” said Dean of the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing and Health Professions Dr. Mary Bess Griffith. “We know there is a growing need for professionals in the field, and we are eager to do our part in meeting that need. One of the best ways for us to do our part in educating and ultimately serving the next generation of nursing professionals is by streamlining their admissions process and their education at Cumberland University.”

Cumberland’s nursing program cultivates resilient and ethical health care professionals, approximately 96% of whom remain in Middle Tennessee to serve. In order to support the growing number of Registered Nurses in the workforce, Cumberland has proactively sought out various ways to ensure their competitive edge and longevity.

In 2021, Cumberland University proudly boasted a 100% National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses pass rate. In order to continue promoting academic and professional success, in 2021, the university established its first residential living and learning community that exclusively caters to the unique needs of nursing students. 4South provides an opportunity for nursing cohorts to bond socially while meeting the needs of a rigorous academic program by providing networking opportunities, tutoring, study space and innovative technology.

Guaranteed Nursing Admissions applications must be in by March 1, 2023 for the Fall 2023 Semester with Spring applications being due October 1, 2023. All general education courses (GEC) and nursing prerequisite courses must be completed prior to entering the BSN program. GNA recipients must also submit a School of Nursing application and ATI entrance exam scores by the candidacy deadline.
