Ignite the Vision

Ignite the Vision has a working goal of $1.7 million to enhance, transform, and inspire Cumberland University. This strategic program focuses on four key initiatives: The Phillips Dining Hall Expansion, The Memorial Lawn Enhancements, The Phoenix Scholars, and The Phoenix Marching Band. Each initiative directly impacts our students and ensures Cumberland remains a top competitor in the higher-education market.

“Our parents, Benton and Sarah Jennings built a house on McClain Avenue to be close to our father’s alma mater (class of 1942), Cumberland University. They along with the 4 of us became part of the Cumberland Family, attending many campus events, friendships with professors and coaches and supporting basketball and baseball games-this was a source of our family entertainment. We have wonderful memories of our family together at Cumberland University. Some of our favorite memories are witnessing our father’s name erected on the Baseball Training Center, receiving the Award of the Phoenix (1984), Grand Marshals at a football game, our mother receiving the honor of The Macebearer (2007 commencement), our father’s position as a Trustee on The CU Board of Trust, and our mother’s joy of making desserts for Coach Woody Hunt’s baseball dinners. We are forever grateful for the love Cumberland showed our parents.”

Why I Give

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to give back because at 42-years-old, Cumberland has given me a second chance at higher education. I feel at home on campus and love the atmosphere of learning and self-improvement. I’m forever grateful for CU.”

– Andrew Frisch, Current CU Student

Why I Give

“The reason why I give is because had it not been for Cumberland giving me scholarships then I would not be able to pay it forward to other students who are going to Cumberland and need it as well.”

– Deborah Hampton, Class of 2001

Why I Give

“Cumberland is an institution where each student is a name not a number. Their individual needs are considered and effective guidance is given. The quality instruction they give requires and appreciates the financial support needed to maintain that quality.”

– Sue Coble

Why I Give

“I give because I believe ensuring access to a quality education is one of the best ways we can advance equity in our communities, state, nation and world. So many Cumberland students are the first in their families to attend college, and while that milestone presents tremendous opportunity, I recognize that it also presents some unique challenges for young people who are navigating lots of ‘firsts’ in their lives. It makes me proud to be an alum when I see faculty and staff who recognize that student success is not just about what happens in the classroom. I’ve seen firsthand CU working to ensure their students have the kind of holistic support and assets they need to succeed, so if I can contribute even a small amount to that work, I will.”

– Jessica Fain, MBA Alum Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, YMCA of Middle Tennessee
