Give Beyond: The Transformative Power of Giving

Scholarship Dinner

This time of year tends to be a time of introspection, leading people to reflect on what’s important to them, and perhaps, inspiring them to take action. As the Director of Major Gifts at Cumberland University, I have the opportunity to witness first hand this generosity in a multitude of ways throughout the year. Major gifts have a truly transformative effect on our campus community by allowing us to expand the work that we do, implement new programs, and assist students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to attend college.

One of my favorite donor stories was made possible by an alum and his wife who attended Cumberland in the early 1940’s. The couple never had any children, but they believed in young people and the promise of the future. The only condition on the gift was for the receivers to afford the same opportunity for other struggling students. Keeping the circle of giving and aid to those in need was a strong value of theirs. This scholarship has helped several hundred students and continues to do so. This is only one example of the many, many people who have invested in our mission and allowed us to continue our work of providing a quality education to anyone.

As the year comes to a close and a new year rapidly approaches, allow us to thank you for your support and commitment to Cumberland. Cumberland is a special place in the hearts of many, and every gift counts and makes a difference. If you have an interest in making an end of year donation, let me be the first to say thank you on behalf of the Cumberland Family.

Yesterday, we celebrated another record year for Giving Tuesday. We are so grateful to every supporter of CU, your investment helps our students achieve their dream of earning a college degree.

Sincerely,

Jenny Bennett

Director of Major Gifts
