Janette Beasley joined the Finance department in November 2007.  She came to Cumberland with over 15 years’ experience in the accounting field and currently serves as a staff accountant.  She is a graduate of Hume-Fogg High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University.  Janette currently lives in Wilson county and enjoys traveling.

Scott Blum was hired as the women’s basketball head coach for the Phoenix on April 12, 2018, after spending the previous 14 years as head coach at Grace College in Indiana. The Lancers posted a pair of 20-win seasons during Blum’s tenure at his alma mater, including 20-15 in 2011-12, the program’s first winning season since 1991-92 and the first 20-win campaign in school history. Grace finished 20-16 this past season. The program has averaged 17.0 wins over the last eight seasons, including an 18-17 mark in 2014-15 and 19-17 in 2012-13. He has compiled 216 career victories. Blum brings a wealth of coaching experience, serving as men’s basketball head coach at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind., from 1995-97, leading the program to the NCCAA national championship in 1995, and head men’s coach at Trinity International in Deerfield, Ill., from 1998-01. He spent one year as the boys basketball coach at Lakewood Park Christian School in Auburn, Ind., and two seasons as an assistant men’s coach at Grace before becoming the women’s head coach for the 2004-05 campaign. As a starting guard in the early 1990s, Blum earned NAIA All-America honors twice and was a major component in the men’s basketball team’s national championship in 1992 at Grace. He also garnered the Pete Maravich Award as the NCCAA Player of the Year in 1992. Blum scored 1|576 career points at Oregon-Davis High School in Hamlet, Ind., and became the only player to have his number retired in school history. He then played two years at Valparaiso University before transferring to Grace for his final two seasons, helping the Lancers to a 59-11 record over that span. Blum earned his bachelor’s in Physical Education from Grace in 1993 and received a master’s in Physical Education from Ball State in 2002. He is married to the former Michelle Hanna and the couple has three boys – Tanner, Connor and Asher.

Joshua Baxter began as a volunteer at Cumberland University in June 2017, working in the Stockton Archives located in the Doris & Harry Vise Library. In August of 2018, he was hired and now divides his time between the archives and the library. He earned a B.A. from Trevecca Nazarene University, majoring in English Literature and minoring in Religious Studies. He has also completed post-baccalaureate studies in history at Aquinas College in Nashville. While a student at Trevecca, he gained archival experience working at the Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives as an archival assistant. Mr. Baxter’s interests include American church history, as well as state and local history. He is a member of various organizations including the American Society of Church History, the American Association of State and Local History, and the Society of American Archivists.

Alana Barnett graduated from high school at Hamilton County High in Florida in 1992. She attended North Florida Community College on a musical scholarship, where she performed with the Sentinel Singers. Alana married and moved to Texas in 1996, she lived there for nine years. While in Texas she started her career in retail management. Throughout her career she also worked in childcare. She moved to Tennessee in 2004 and worked as a Preschool teacher for eight years.  In 2008 she started her photography business, AB Photography. She specializes in natural light family sessions.  Alana joined Cumberland in the fall of 2019. She is currently the Postmaster for the college. She resides in Mt. Juliet with her husband and three children. Alana enjoys spending time with friends and family. Her favorite place to visit is the beach. Her hobbies include photography, singing, painting, hiking, traveling, and scrapbooking.

Head Mens Volleyball Coach

Scott Barbe enters his third season as Head Coach for Men's Volleyball at Cumberland University. Scott was named Sports Chair for the MSC during the 2019-2020 season.   Now completing his second season his team finished the shortened season with an 11-14 (4-5 MSC) overall record.  In his first season at Cumberland, the team went 11-24(8-5 MSC) playing much better toward the end of the season.  Barbe spent two seasons as the head coach for women’s volleyball at Ave Maria University, an NAIA institution just east of Naples, Fla., from 2014-16. The Gyrenes posted a 4-21 mark in his first season but improved to 13-19 in 2015, at that time the best winning percentage in school history.  He has 20-plus years of experience in volleyball as a head coach at the high school, collegiate and club levels. Barbe served as head coach at Warren Woods Tower High School in Warren, Mich., from 2010-13, winning MAC Division championships in his first two seasons at WWTHS while also earning Coach of the Year honors during those campaigns. Barbe’s biggest foray into the sport came during eight years (2007-15) at owner, master coach and athletic program director for the Dynasty Volleyball Club in Macomb, Mich. He implemented program and development programs for ages 8-18, coordinated team activities for training, practices, matches, events and travel schedules and handled all business operations for the club. He was responsible for assembling teams and coaching staffs and was directly involved with the collegiate recruiting process for players in the club. Barbe earned his bachelor’s in Business Administration from Walsh College in Troy, Mich., in 2000 and received his master’s in Management from Walsh in 2003. Barbe is happily married to his wife Kristen.  They reside in middle Tennessee with their young children- Colton, Ashlynn and Wyatt.

Mr. Kyle Allen is from Marietta, Georgia and graduated from Wheeler High School. He attended Cumberland and played baseball from 2014-2017. Mr. Allen was a member of the 2014 National Championship team. He graduated in 2017 with his Bachelors in Health and Human Performance. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Kyle worked as the CU Graduate Assistant for the Athletic Department from August 2017- May 2019. Allen got a Master of Arts- Sport Management degree in May 2019. Mr. Allen began working for the Nashville Sounds in February 2019 until July 2019. As the Sports Information Director, his responsibilities include: Coordination of players, teams, and game statistics and results Development and cultivation of productive relationships with local, regional, and national media Develop media programs Assist the involvement in athletic fundraising and corporate sponsors Manage athletics webpage
