Dr. John Markert’s New Book

Associate Professor of Sociology Dr. John Markert has written a book, Publishing Romance: The History of an Industry, 1940s to the Present, which was published in March.

The book traces the history and evolution of the romance novel industry, covering successful (and not so successful) trends and describes changes in romance publishing that paved the way for the many popular subgenres flooding the market in the 21st century. McFarland & Company is the publisher.

Markert has written several books, including Hooked in Film: Substance Abuse on the Big Screen; Post-9/11 Cinema: Through a Lens Darkly; and The Social Impact of Sexual Harassment: A Resource Manual for Organizations and Scholars. He has been a faculty member at Cumberland since 1989.
