School of Liberal Arts and Sciences - History

Preparing today's students for the jobs of tomorrow is the goal of Cumberland's history department. Careers as historians, lawyers, government employees, media personnel, museum curators, archivists and teachers can be your vocation as well as a sound base for success and service to society.

The BA in History consists of 128 semester hours:

  • 51 from the GEC; 30 history core requirements
  • 36 hours from other required social sciences
  • 11 hours of general electives

The Department of Education of the State of Tennessee has authorized Cumberland University to train teachers for a history endorsement for the purpose of instruction in secondary public and private schools in the State of Tennessee. Dual endorsements are also possible in History/Economics, History/Geography, History/Political Science, History/Psychology, or History Sociology.
