School of Liberal Arts and Sciences - Criminal Justice

The BA in Criminal Justice is designed to prepare students for diversified work experiences in the public sector. In addition, the student will be exposed to course work in the rapidly growing field of private sector security. This enables the student to obtain an understanding of the interdependent relationship between the various public and private sector organizations that protect people and property, and will broaden and enhance the student's career opportunities.
Criminal Justice majors have the opportunity to study the history of legal ideas, legal institutions, legal administration, and legal enforcement. In addition, coursework in public administration and political science will provide the student with knowledge and insight into government, government agencies and politics. The Criminal Justice degree combines professional courses with liberal arts preparation for students seeking careers in public service.

 The BA degree in Criminal Justice consists of a minimum of 120 semester hours:

  • 41-42 from the GEC
  • 33 from the Criminal Justice core
  • 24 from Social Science courses
  • 6 from Social Science electives
  • 15-16 from general electives
