School of Liberal Arts and Sciences - Biology

Since 1990, Cumberland graduates have a 100% acceptance rate for dental and pharmacy school and, since 1993, a near 100% acceptance rate to medical school. Needless to say, our biology curriculum is excellent preparation for graduate study in biology or the health professions, or to teach at the secondary level. But there are many other choices biology majors can make. This degree develops the student's understanding of the life sciences through study of basic principles of the structures and functions of a variety of organisms and through study of ecosystems and the environment.

The BS degree in Biology consists of one hundred twenty (120) minimum required semester hours:
  • forty-one to forty-two (41-42) from the GEC
  • thirty-three (33) required from biology core classes
  • thirty (30) from biology electives from Categories A, B and C
  • fourteen to sixteen (14-16) of general electives
