Rain Plan
A decision will be made by 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 if the Cumberland University’s 166th Commencement Ceremony will be conducted in the Dallas Floyd Gymnasium. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd.
As a proactive measure taken to ensure a smooth transition in the event the ceremony is relocated due to inclement weather, each graduate has been provided with three (3) tickets for family and guests. All degree candidates will receive their tickets when they pick-up thier cap and gown at the bookstore.
All guests and graduates are asked to access the Dallas Floyd Gymnasium through the front entrance. Tickets will be collected upon entry. Seating is limited. Those guests who do not have tickets will be given a number and directed to Baird Chapel in Memorial Hall. As the 10 a.m. hour nears, guests waiting in Baird Chapel will be called by number as additional seating becomes available inside the Dallas Floyd Gymnasium.
Please check the website regularly for detailed information concerning the rain plan.
During the ceremony each graduate will be presented a diploma cover. Following the graduation ceremony, graduates should pick up their diplomas at the designated area. Graduates must present a photo ID in order to receive their diploma. Diploma pick-up will be available until 2:00 p.m. on the day of graduation. Diplomas not picked up on Commencement Day will be available in the Registrar's office in Memorial Hall from May 12th-May 19th. Any diplomas not picked up by May 19th will be mailed to the home address.
There will be a reception following the Commencement program, all graduates, family members and guests are invited to attend.
Please make note of the following University Policy. It will be followed for the 2008 Commencement.
Except as listed below, no student will be allowed to walk in the 2008 May Commencement unless they have completed all graduation requirements.
The two exceptions are:
(1) As in 2007, we will allow student-teachers who are registered for Spring courses that are aligned with the public school calendar to walk with the recommendation of the Dean of the School of Education.
(2) We will allow students who have a documented ability to complete all graduation requirements by taking no more than two courses (up to 6 credit hours) in the May and Summer terms to walk with the recommendation of the Dean of the School to which their major is affiliated. These students must be registered for the May and Summer courses.
