INSIDE THE COURSE:

The Computational Science major at Cumberland University will provide students with a broad-based, multidisciplinary science and mathematics education grounded in the liberal arts, while focusing on computation across disciplines.  The core of the program emphasizes student skill proficiencies in programming fundamentals and mathematics.  This program will teach students to use computers and multiple programming languages to solve problems in any particular discipline of their choice.  Acquisition of this degree will enable students to subsequently acquire new skills in the field of computational science.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

  • The CPS program will teach students to use computers to solve problems in any particular discipline of their choice.
  • Gain a broad understanding of the role of computer science and computational methods
  • Understanding of the theoretical basis of computer science
  • Proficiency in computational problem solving strategies
  • Demonstrate the ability to systematically analyse problems
  • Develop, design and analyse algorithms
  • Identify solutions to computational problems
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in both independent and collaborative ways with others that accommodate diverse abilities and perspective
