Pate joins CU board of trust


Thomas R. Pate has joined Cumberland University’s board of trust. He is the vice president, operations business model and new unit openings with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc., where he has been employed for 35 years.

Pate graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and also serves on Cumberland’s Labry School of Science, Technology, and Business advisory board. He has received the Commitment to Leadership award from Leadership Wilson, Bronze Leadership award from Junior Achievement, Lifetime Membership award from the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers and the Commitment to Leadership award from the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. 

He has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Nashville Community Resource Center, University Medical Center and the Heart Association of Wilson County. He is the former chairman of the Employee Assistance Professional Board of the Tennessee Department of Labor, and former president of Leadership Wilson.

At the headquarters for Cracker Barrel, he oversees six departments, including hourly employee training, restaurant and retail management training, management development, bilingual training, culinary training, and hotel operations.

His wealth of experience in leadership and managing people will now benefit the University’s board of trust and the University as a whole,” said Dr. Paul Stumb, president of Cumberland University.
