CU Phoenix kicks off season with a win


With more than 3,000 fans in attendance the Cumberland Phoenix defeated Bluefield College 24-17 at Nokes-Lasater Field this past Saturday.  The home opener was sponsored by Wilson County Motors.  Wilson County Motors and the Bone family are long standing friends of the University.  During the game W. P. Bone, owner of Wilson County Motors and Chairman of the Cumberland University Board of Trust, along with his sons Mitchel and a Paine, were recognized.  Also recognized was Mrs. Karen Hobson, licensing officer for the teacher education program.  

Cumberland hits the road next Saturday to face the University of the Cumberlands at 6 p.m. CT in Williamsburg, Ky. For additional coverage of the game and other sports highlights visit the athletic website
