Cumberland University will be holding a 4-day/3-night leadership institute on campus for high school juniors in Tennessee on June 19 – 22 and June 26 – 29. The purpose of the fair is to help juniors recognize their responsibilities as community, youth, and organizational leaders and how to identify, address, and meet future challenges within the state.

The goal of the Summer Leadership Institute is to develop new relationships with other high school juniors in the state, define the fundamentals of leadership, identify their style of leadership, learn to manage conflict, and become an ethical leader committed to active community involvement.

The lead facilitators of the Cumberland University Summer Leadership Institute are Michael Ayalon, CEO of Greek University, and Lucy Lee, who was the executive director of Leadership Wilson for 14 years. Ayalon is a motivational speaker and entrepreneur that has headlined over 300 presentations across 100 college campuses. Lee won the “Robert Smith Tennessee Leadership Educator Award” in 2000, and also has taught a leadership course in Cumberland University’s Master of Business Administration degree program for five years.

“Lucy and I are so excited to bring this unique program to Tennessee high school students,” said Ayalon. “We wanted to build a fun program that would allow them to experience four days of leadership training at Cumberland University, including an early exposure to dorm life, building new relationships, and even participating in a service learning experience by giving back to our community. It’s a positive leadership experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.”

“I believe the best way to bring positive change to the citizens of Tennessee is through the leadership of our youth,” said Lee. “We can see a positive impact in the lives of our students through this Institute. They will come back with increased confidence, a commitment to improve our community, and the leadership skills to make a difference.”

Applications for the Cumberland University Summer Leadership Institute must be received by June 1, 2017. The application is available at www.cumberland.edu/cusli. The cost of the institute is $250, which includes food, lodging on campus, and books for the entire 4-day/3-night program. Questions about the program can be directed to mayalon@cumberland.edu.
