2013-14 Distinguished Alumni Named

The Cumberland University Alumni Association recently announced three honorees to receive its 2013-14 Distinguished Alumni awards. Each year the Association recognizes outstanding alumni that excel professionally, contribute to their community, and leave their mark upon the world. The honorees were formally recognized at this year’s homecoming football game.
 

This year’s honorees include Julie Craig (Class of 2002) of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Pastor John Hunn (Class of 1987) of Immanuel Baptist Church, and Melanie Bean (Class of 2000) of Lannom & Williams Attorneys At Law.
 

Outstanding Professional Achievement:  Julie Craig (Class of 2002)

Julie Craig is the 2013-14 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement.  Craig serves as Marketing Manager at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, a $2.6 billion company with over 600 stores in 42 states.  Her efforts to drive national attention and retail sales for the company’s music label include the creation and implementation of multi-platform marketing plans. In her role she has negotiated sponsorships and agreements with some of country music’s biggest artists including Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, George Jones, and Dolly Parton.  A graduate of Leadership Wilson, Craig was also recently chosen to participate in Leadership Music’s historic 25th class. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Edward A. Labry School of Science, Technology, and Business at Cumberland University.
 

Service to the Community/University:  John Hunn (Class of 1987)

John Hunn is the 2013-14 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to the Community/University.  Hunn serves as senior pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tenn. He is an engaged member of the community and is active in numerous community activities including the Rotary Club. Hunn takes great pride in the fact that his diploma has Cumberland University written on it.  He remains a vital member of the campus community through his interaction with students, (especially student athletes since he was one himself) faculty, and staff. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Edward A. Labry School of Science, Technology, and Business at Cumberland University.
 

Young Alumni Achievement:  Melanie Bean (Class of 2000)

Melanie Bean is the 2013-14 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for Young Alumni Achievement.  Bean is an experienced trial attorney with Lannon & Williams Attorneys at Law in Lebanon, Tenn. and has been responsible for preparing more than a thousand criminal, civil, and family law cases for jury and bench trials.  She also serves as an adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at Cumberland University.  Bean currently serves as a chair and co-chair of the Legislative Committee for the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and was named a 2013 Super Lawyers Rising Star as chosen by a national panel of fellow attorneys.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the School of Humanities, Education, and the Arts at Cumberland University.
