CU professor earns prestigious online instruction certification

5/28/2012

Cumberland University professor Dr. Robert “Skip” Grubb has completed a distinguished certification program for online instructors. Director of Cumberland’s Online Forensic and Criminal Justice Sciences Program, Grubb earned the Certified Online Instructor (COI) designation from the professional association Learning Resources Network (LERN) on June 4.

Grubb will now be permitted to use the initials COI after his name to indicate his Certified Online Instructor status, a mark of distinction among online faculty.

To be awarded the COI designation, Grubb had to pass a comprehensive examination and complete three online LERN courses: Building Online Learning Communities, Advanced Online Teaching, and Moving Teaching and Learning to the Web. Grubb was also required to create and teach at least two COI
mentor-evaluated online courses, each of which required his students to complete LERN course evaluations.

An international association of lifelong learning programming, LERN is the online leader for professional development in higher education. Created by experts in online learning who are engaged in writing and consulting on teaching in the virtual environment, LERN serves as the benchmark for instructors in the online learning environment.
