Cumberland Announces Landmark Gift for New Cafe
Officials at Cumberland University are pleased to announce a contribution of $500 thousand to support the construction of a new Café on campus.
A $3 million initiative, the Café will be the heart of a new state-of-the-art campus center giving students an innovative learning environment, programming space and gathering areas for eating, meeting and socializing. The facility will house student media services and will feature a second floor meeting area providing students, alumni and local, state, and national groups of every kind a vibrant meeting place. The Café will serve as the foundation for the future of student and community life on campus.
The donor of this significant donation wishes to remain anonymous but believes that a gift to Cumberland University is a sound investment in the lives of young people and our community that will pay dividends for decades.
The gift arrives at time when Cumberland is experiencing some of the most exciting growth in its history. A 152 bed residence hall is nearing completion, the new Learning Commons will be completed in 2012, and student enrollment has reached record levels.
“This is an incredibly generous donation that will continue the transformation of our beautiful campus and serve Cumberland’s students, faculty and staff for years to come,” said Dr. Harvill Eaton, President of the University. “This is a landmark gift and is just another example of the shared support of Cumberland University, but there is much work to be done.”
With this gift, the fundraising campaign for the Café has already brought in $1.5 million placing the effort at the halfway mark.
