This exhibit features the artwork of Dawn Whitelaw and Paula Frizbe. Both of these realist artists live in Franklin and show their work both regionally and nationally. Both artists have won national awards and both are former faculty members at Lipscomb University. Dawn Whitelaw is a noted portrait artist; she is displaying some of her portrait sketches, as well as landscapes. Paula Frizbe specializes in landscape painting. The artists belong to a group that practices 'plein air' painting (painting directly on-site, out-of-doors), capturing fleeting effects of light and weather. This event is sponsored by the School of Music and the Arts.

9-4 p.m. Paper Mosaics Exhibit by Heloise Shilstat in the Vise Library
Please take the time to view this art exhibit by an artist from Murfreesboro. Her paper mosaics were created from cut or torn magazine paper, glued onto foam core board. She states, “I started making these pictures in 2006 after reading that this technique is sometimes used to teach art students to recognize subtleties in shading. Ideas for my pictures usually come from nature. In Manchester, we lived on the Little Duck River; now I live in the woods on the East Fork of the Stones River in Rutherford County. My quilt pictures were inspired by the quilts made by a Rutherford County woman.” Ms. Shilstat is a member of the Murfreesboro Art League and the Stones River Craft Association. This event is sponsored by the Vise Library.

We welcome you to attend class with your student provided there is no exam scheduled for the day. Check with your student to see which classrooms have seating space for a few guests. This event is sponsored by the Division of Academic Affairs.
