Cumberland Benefactor Passes Away
Students, Faculty, and Staff are mourning the loss of Jeanette C. Rudy, a benefactor who was the catalyst behind the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing. She was 83.
Through her love of education and her tremendous passion for the field of nursing Mrs. Rudy changed the course of Cumberland University and forever made a lasting impression on nursing alumni across the country.
“Her greatest programmatic contribution to Cumberland is and will remain singular in the history of the University.” said Dr. Harvill Eaton, President of the University. “She saw the emergence of nursing, and more broadly the health professions, as service professions for which initial training would move from primarily hospital-based to mainstream university-based disciplines. She taught the importance of giving, tenacity, and faith to everyone whom she met. Her generosity has touched lives far beyond the campus of Cumberland.”
Mrs. Rudy was also a beloved member of the Board of Trust at Cumberland University serving the school since 1987 and as chairwoman from 2001-2003. She was an avid Federal Duck Stamp Collector and was considered to have owned the best collection in the world.
The funeral service for Mrs. Rudy is at 2 pm, Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home in Donelson, Tenn.
