Details Announced for '08 Alumni & Friends Tour
Scheduled for June 16 through 27, 2008, this stunning educational tour will include sightseeing stops in dozens of world-renowned locales, including Edinburgh Castle, Stonehenge, Shakespeare's birthplace, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster Abbey and a performance at the famed Globe Theatre. The group tour will also include ample free time, allowing for plenty of individual exploration.
"After having such an absolutely spectacular time during our recent Alumni and Friends Tour of Italy, which was the first of its kind for Cumberland University, we are incredibly excited about next year's trip," Dr. Garvin S. Maffett, Vice President for Advancement, remarked. "I'm certain that, like Italy, Scotland and England will offer breath-taking sights, provide the opportunity to create new friendships and produce countless lifelong memories."
As an added bonus, much of the tour will be led by Drs. Michael Rex and Laura Redmond, a husband-and-wife team from the Cumberland University English Department who are respected scholars in British history and literature.
"I'm thrilled to know that I'm going to be able to share this experience with Cumberland's alumni and friends," Rex said. "The British Isles offer some of the most intriguing sights the world has to offer, and the region's history is rich with literature and art."
Cost for the trip, which includes round-trip airfare, taxes, accommodations, continental breakfasts and dinners, admission to all attractions and transportation, is $4,685 per person. A deposit of $600 per person is required, and the remaining balance will be payable in monthly installments of $680.83 per person beginning on Oct. 1, 2007. The final payment is due on March 1, 2008.
