'Pack the Gym' Nights Offer Free Hoops Action
In all, Cumberland University will host five "Wilson County Pack the Gym Nights" this spring, offering local students and their families the chance to enjoy some fast-paced hoops action while sharing in the fun and excitement of NAIA basketball -- all at no charge.
The five-game series includes a Jan. 31 contest with fierce rival Trevecca Nazarene University, when CU students, faculty and guests plan to wear black for a "Black-Out Night." And, on Feb. 16, the Dallas Floyd Gymnasium will play host to a repeat match-up of last year's women's national championship game as the Lady Bulldogs take on defending NAIA Division I National Champion Lambuth University.
"Each of these games should be tremendous contests, as they are all conference rivals and will have a significant impact on our conference standings," Cumberland University Athletic Director Pat Lawson said. "Both our men's and women's teams have enjoyed numerous successes in recent years, and that tradition will no doubt continue in 2008."
Over the past few seasons, both teams have made the NAIA national tournament. The Lady Bulldogs completed the best season in University history in 2006-07, finishing as NAIA Division I National Tournament Runner-Up.
