Dressler Memorial Service to be held Sept. 23

Dr. James B. Dressler

On Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 12:30 p.m., Cumberland University will hold a memorial service for the late Dr. James B. Dressler, who passed away on June 10 following a brief illness. The service will be held in Baird Chapel, and all students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to attend as the University celebrates the life of Dr. Dressler and his many contributions to the CU community.

A member of the Cumberland University faculty for nearly four decades, Dr. Dressler was a beloved professor of history, an author and a true educator, CU President Dr. Harvill Eaton said. During his tenure at Cumberland, Dr. Dressler held several teaching and administrative positions, offering him the unique opportunity to interact with nearly every member of the Cumberland community from 1970 until his passing.

"Dr. James Dressler was more than a history teacher. He was a Cumberland professor, and that's special," Eaton added. "Most professors care about what they teach. Cumberland professors also care about whom they teach. He was a fine example of this steadfast commitment to students, and he will be dearly missed."
