CU President & First Lady to Host Patron's Party
Cumberland University's annual Patron's Party will be held at the Lebanon home of Dr. & Mrs. Harvill C. Eaton on Thursday, May 29, amidst a lush garden landscape intended to herald the upcoming Silver Anniversary of the Phoenix Ball.
Set to begin at 6 p.m., the Patron's Party offers friends of the University and the Cumberland University family an opportunity to socialize as they look ahead to the Ball.
However, according to Dr. Eaton, this year's Patron's Party will also offer a glimpse into the past.
"This is going to be a very different kind of Patron's Party, one where we honor days long gone by with an old-style garden party -- a party like members of the Cumberland community might have attended in the late 19th or early 20th century," Eaton said. "To know where we're headed, we must always be in touch with our roots."
The annual Patron's Party, complete with dinner and entertainment, offers a small taste of what guests who attend the 25th Annual Phoenix Ball on Saturday, June 7 might expect. The large back lawn of the President's home will be adorned with a multitude of flowers and several different "gathering spots" that, combined with special musical selections, "will remind us of the simple but elegant beauty of our region and its past," Eaton added.
This year's Phoenix Ball will honor former Congressman and university president Robert Clement and his wife, Mary, who originally founded the Ball -- an annual gala which has served as the University's flagship fundraiser for nearly three decades. The theme for the 25th Annual Phoenix Ball is "A Defining Moment."
