Library Instruction

Classroom Instruction:
The Vise University Library staff offers individual and group instruction on the use of the library catalog and the many electronic databases that are available. This instruction lasts approximately 30 minutes and familiarizes students and faculty with how to search for books and articles. If you would like more advanced instruction tailored to a particular discipline or research project, this can be provided as well. For more information, please e-mail Eloise Hitchcock at ehitchcock@cumberland.edu or call 615-547-1351.

Private Tutorials:
Any time is a good time to meet with a librarian to learn about the services available to you. Appointments for an on-campus meeting or a tutorial by phone can be arranged. For tutorials by phone, you will need to have access to the Internet while you are on the phone.

We can teach you how to...

  • Use our collection of online databases.
  • Locate books, videos, periodicals, and other materials using our online catalog.
  • Locate and use eBooks.
  • Sharpen your Internet searching skills.
  • Request material from another library.
  • Get started with a research project.

If you would like to meet with a librarian to learn about the library's resources, go to 'Research Tool' to the 'Ask a Librarian' section for a list of librarians by subject area, and contact the librarian whose subject area most closely fits your needs.
