Become immersed in Music at Cumberland University!

Located near Nashville, Cumberland offers a wide variety of options to students interested in Music. Music ensembles now include the Marching Band, Concert Band, University Jazz Ensemble, Cumberland Chorale, University Singers (which tours internationally), the String Ensemble and various small ensembles. These ensembles are open to all qualified students, regardless of major, and scholarships are available by audition. If you are interested in auditioning for a scholarship, please fill out a scholarship information form. Songwriting, digital music technology and opportunities for internships on Nashville’s famous Music Row round out the long list of music options available at Cumberland!

Within the Bachelor of Music degree program, students can choose from area of emphasis including: Music Education, Music Performance and General Studies in Music. A minor in Music is also available. The Music Education emphasis prepares students to teach music in from kindergarten through senior high school. Choose courses leading to teacher licensure in either instrumental music or vocal/general music.

Students in the Music Performance emphasis follow a curriculum which enables you to develop your full potential on a major instrument or in voice. In addition to study in performance, you will pursue courses in music theory, history of music and conducting.

General Studies in Music allows you to select various courses within the broad field of music. If you choose this track, you will complete a minor area of study as well, with an option for a double major.

Music classes are small (excluding ensembles), so you'll get individual attention from our outstanding faculty. There is an atmosphere of cooperation among students and music faculty at Cumberland; you can come to Cumberland and be a leader!
