Cumberland University's Master of Arts in Education Degree - Educational Leadership program is being taught out. Our new M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership begins its first cohort in Fall 2012.
The newly designed program will have two concentrations:
A Licensure track that leads to a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License - Beginner (ILL-B)
A non-licensure track designed for candidates interested in Instructional Coaching in K-12 schools
This is a cohort-based 30 semester-hour program that can be completed in 14 months through a combination of On-Line, Hybrid, and on-ground courses. Field Experiences are required.

All applicants for the non-licensure track for Instructional Coaches must be certified teachers.
Cumberland University application accompanied by $50 application fee;
Official transcripts sent from all previously attended colleges and universities;
Interview with Educational Leadership faculty and LEA Leadership Team;
GPA in Bachelor's degree of at least 2.75, or 3.00 in previous Master's programs;
A case-study analysis writing sample completed on campus during interview visit;
Three disposition assessments from district-level administrator/educator.
All Instructional Leadership Licensure concentration applicants seeking the ILL-B must have a valid Tennessee Teacher's License and three years education working experience.

Be employed by a TN school district (County/district must have partnership agreement with Cumberland University)

Under the Tennessee Learning-Centered Leadership Policy, Institutions of Higher Education across Tennessee require the following:
Portfolio Requirements for ILL-B License
Applicants must submit a portfolio with evidence which includes the following:
A current résumé
A copy of the most recent Performance Appraisal Record;
A copy of the TN SDE Experience Verification Form signed by the appropriate LEA personnel (http://www.state.tn.us/education/lic/doc/ed2034a.pdf);
A copy of most current professional development or future growth plan;
Evidence of ability to improve student achievement;
Evidence of leadership and instructional coaching ability;
Evidence of expertise in knowledge of curriculum/instructional design and assessment;
Evidence that describes qualities of collaboration, cooperation and relationship building;
A letter (on School Letterhead) from Director of Schools/Superintendent indicating the candidate would receive opportunities for appropriate field-based experiences.
Interview Requirement
During the interview, the candidate must be prepared to discuss how he or she has a working knowledge and track record of implementing the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards.
* To complete the program, licensure-seeking candidates must complete an oral defense of their portfolio in the last semester of work. Candidates completing the K-12 Instructional Leadership concentration must successfully pass the Praxis SLLA Exam required for the ILL-B License (Test Code 6011) to obtain both the M.Ed. degree and state licensure.
Financial assistance in the form of student loans may be available for degree-seeking students.
