Admissions Requirements

MAE - Admissions Requirements

There are two different sets of Admissions requirements, based on which program you are interested in:

Applicants to the following programs: Instructional Coaching Evaluation and Assessment (ICEA) or Educational Leadership programs, and applicants to the MAE - Teaching and Learning Initial Licensure tracks (Track II or III) must submit the following:

  • A completed application;
  • A $50 Application Fee;
  • Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended;
  • Copy of teaching certificate, if applicable;
  • Copy of Graduate test scores: Graduate Record Examination (GRE-general) 800 or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) 363;
    • Track II candidates - anyone seeking an initial teacher's license and will complete the student teaching semester - must submit a passing score on the Praxis II content area exam for the subject they intend to teach before completing 12 hours of graduate study. Evidence of passing scores may accompany their other admissions materials. (For a list of required content area exams, click here);
  • Three confidential recommendation forms, sent directly to us from the writers of the letters;
  • Completed financial aid form if necessary.

Note: Please be sure to select the appropriate Program and Track on your application:

  • Choose Master of Arts in Education - Teaching and Learning Track I if you have a teacher's license; if you are not seeking a teacher's license, choose Track I.
  • Choose Master of Arts in Education - Teaching and Learning Track II if you seek an initial teachers license and will be able to complete a semester of student teaching. If you are seeking initial licensure, you will be required to pass the Praxis II exam related to the content you will be teaching within two semesters of being admitted
  • Choose Master of Arts in Education - Teaching and Learning Track III if you are teaching on a Transitional License (if you are on a transitional license but do not seek the MAE degree, indicate that on the application);
  • Choose the Educational Leadership program if you are an educator seeking a Tennessee Administrator's license.

Applicants to the MAE - Teaching and Learning Track I must submit evidence of completing a degree from a REGIONALLY ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY and a completed application form.

Application materials should be sent to: Cumberland University Graduate Admissions Office, Attn: Angela Talley, 1 Cumberland Square, Lebanon TN 37087.

Once you submit your application and are added to our list of applicants, you will receive a letter informing you of your admissions status: incomplete, provisional or fully admitted. You may complete six (6) semester hours of credit in an incomplete or provisional status, however, you must be fully admitted to have a loan processed.

If you are interested in a loan, you must complete the FAFSA and e-mail financialaid@cumberland.edu for Cumberland 's financial aid packet. A few weeks before the semester begins, you will also be sent registration information and a registration form to sign and return, plus information on ordering books. Note: Applicants with a master's degree who are completing only the 18 hours of coursework for the administrator's license need only submit the application, $50 fee and official Bachelor and Master's degree transcripts.
