Graduate Programs - Master of Arts in Education

Cumberland University now offers two Master of Arts in Education degree programs! Both 36-semester-hour programs, the Teaching & Learning degree is focused on improving classroom teaching and is administered entirely online, while the Educational Leadership program provides the coursework component for the administrator's license and is delivered partially online. Thanks to the latest in technology and one-on-one interaction with professors and colleagues, both programs will prove integral to your career while accommodating your busy lifestyle! Both programs require an on-campus orientation, plus one campus visit at the end of each semester for final exams, qualify teachers for the master's pay supplement in Tennessee and utilize study teams. It's important to note that the Cumberland University MAE program is not just for licensed teachers -- the program is suitable for almost everyone, including those who wish to teach on an Alternate license!

in .pdf format, please click here.

Once you submit your application and are added to our list of applicants, you will receive a letter informing you of your admissions status: incomplete, provisional or fully admitted. You may complete six (6) semester hours of credit in an incomplete or provisional status, however, you must be fully admitted to have a loan processed. If you are interested in a loan, you must complete the FAFSA and e-mail financialaid@cumberland.edu for Cumberland 's financial aid packet. A few weeks before the semester begins, you will also be sent registration information and a registration form to sign and return, plus information on ordering books.

You will need to come to campus for the first orientation session, then come back for final exams at the end of the semester, when you will also begin your next two courses.

You can get directions to campus by going to www.mapquest.com. (Please keep in mind that there is often interstate roadwork in Nashville, which can cause delays.) Once you arrive on our small, beautiful campus, you can't miss Memorial Hall, the "clock tower" building. This is where you will report for registration. If you've ordered books through the bookstore, you may pick them up on in the University bookstore, which is located upstairs in the atrium of Labry Hall.

We believe you'll fall in love with our campus! If you want to bring your family along for the ride, they might enjoy shopping the antique stores on the nearby town square or at the Prime Outlets mall by the interstate. And Cedars of Lebanon State Park is only about ten miles away.
