Dr. Frank Ruckman joined the Cumberland University Faculty as an Assistant Professor in the School of Education in 2002. His responsibilities included teaching Computer Classes, as well as Coordinating school placements for all Student Teachers. He was also instrumental in implementing the Livetext program at Cumberland University, as well as serving as a Livetext Consultant to various universities throughout the United States. At the May, 2005 Cumberland Commencement, Dr. Ruckman was presented the "Outstanding Educator" Award.
Dr. Ruckman received a B. S. degree in Elementary Education from Trevecca Nazarene University (1970), an M. A. (1974) in Administration And Supervision from Middle Tennessee State University, and an Ed. D from Tennessee State University (1994). During his 30 plus year career in the Public schools, he served as School Bus Driver, Teacher/Coach, Assistant Principal, and High School Principal. During his teaching career, he was twice selected as his school's nominee for "Teacher of the Year". He also served in the State Department of Education. First, as a Consultant in the Computer Skills Next Program, where he helped co-author the initial Computer Skills Next textbooks (On loan to the Tennessee Department of Education) from his high school Principal position, followed by his appointment as the Director of the Computer Education Department for the Tennessee Department of Education. He has also served as the Director of Graduate Studies, Trevecca Nazarene University, as well as Director of Teacher Education at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana.
Dr. Ruckman is currently an "Adjunct Professor" in the School of Education and Public Service Management. His current responsibilities include coordinating the Transitional License Program for the School of Education.
Dr. Ruckman's community involvement has been through his church work, as well as being an official in his local community. He is also serving on the Board of Directors of an area credit union.
Dr. Ruckman and his wife, Sylvia have traveled to all fifty states, as well as visiting many worldwide countries. During his tenure as a high school teacher, Dr. Ruckman had the opportunity to take numerous high school students on their first overseas adventure.
The Ruckmans have two sons. Both of whom are involved in public education.
