Professor Phil Pipitone joined the Cumberland University faculty in 2008 as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice. Prior to joining Cumberland’s faculty, he was the Criminal Justice lead instructor (coordinator) at Draughons Junior College in Murfreesboro, a CJ adjunct instructor at Remington College in Nashville and Columbia State Jr. College in Columbia, Tennessee.
Phil has taught numerous criminal justice courses at the Southeast Institute of CRJ in Miami, Florida. in law enforcement and criminal investigation – including Homicide, Traffic Homicide, Robbery, Sexual Assault, Child Sexual Assault, & Crime Scene. He served as a Training Advisor (T.A.) for several academy classes at the institute.
Professor Pipitone has been a guest speaker who makes presentations at high schools, technical schools, and Universities during his extensive law enforcement career (27 years). As a Lieutenant on the Vanderbilt University Police Department, he was instrumental in forming the Middle Tn. Chapter of the International Association of hospital security. Phil served a vice-chairman of the chapter for several years.
Phil loves teaching and law enforcement, has mentored, and molded the lives of police officers, reserve officers, police explorers and students through classroom instruction, advising and training. His hobbies include firearms marksmanship, running, and stamp collecting. He has received numerous awards during his law enforcement career including the medal of valor, distinguished police officer of the month, and was appointed vice-chairman of the Rutherford County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors in the Fall of 2010.
