Margie Monde is the Director of the Adams Gallery, and an Art instructor for the School of Music and Arts. She brings to Cumberland expertise in the field of Art and teaches courses such as Art appreciation, graphic design, photography and digital moviemaking. Monde’s paintings, illustrations, photography, and graphic design works have been published at a regional, national and international level and included in publications for the following selection of clients: former U.S. President George W. Bush, numerous state senators and congressmen, the Governor’s Offices of the States of Louisiana and Mississippi, NASA, NATO, USGS, EPA, several research consortiums and Fortune 500 corporations.
After working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for 12 years, Margie left NASA to join the faculty at Cumberland University in 2008. Her positions at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, located near New Orleans, included work as an illustrator, and a technical trainer/education technology specialist. There she illustrated large wall murals and designed exhibits for the NASA museum, and worked as a lead graphic designer on a number of NASA publications and websites. She also taught computer, photography, moviemaking, and technology teacher workshops for NASA’s Office of Education. Margie is a Hurricane Katrina survivor, and after her waterfront home was hit by a 27 ft. tidal wave, she left the Gulf Coast for Tennessee.
Prior to NASA, Margie worked in Italy as an advertising and publicity director for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). During the four years she lived in Europe, Monde studied painting under Italian artists, and was active as an art editor for the International Archaeological Society’s monthly newsletter. Previous positions also include work as assistant art director for a commercial printing company, an art teacher, and graphic designer for an advertising agency.
Mrs. Monde is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including national level awards such as three prestigious NASA Public Service Group Achievement Awards for her educational work at NASA. Awards also include a NASA Frontline Award, a Southern European Broadcasting Certificate of Appreciation, and nine American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards and Citations of Excellence. Her design, photography, and painting works have been exhibited at a number of museum exhibits and galleries.
