Director of Counseling and Disability Services
Juanita Kissell joined Cumberland University in August 2012. Because she did not know what she wanted to be when she grew up, Juanita received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology from Hanover College, then a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Southern Methodist University, and then a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has now figured out that she just does not want to grow up!
Juanita has worked as a college counselor for 9+ years, and as a counselor for 18+ years. She and her husband have lived in multiple states including Indiana, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, and Minnesota, in additional to Juanita’s childhood homes in Kentucky and Delaware. One visit to her office will tell you that she is an M&Ms fanatic. Her job duties at Cumberland include providing free counseling to Cumberland students, overseeing and administering disability services, teaching a psychology class, providing mental health and alcohol/drug awareness programming, and assisting faculty, staff, and administration with student mental health issues that affect the campus as a whole.
