A native of Donelson, Tenn., Dr. Harvill C. Eaton was appointed president of Cumberland University in January 2004. Under his leadership, the university has experienced tremendous growth and now serves nearly 1,500 students. Eaton's goals for Cumberland include growing the student body to approximately 2,000 students and taking the university to the next level with modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology.

Dr. Eaton holds a B.S. degree (1970) and an M.S. degree (1972) in engineering science from Tennessee Technological University and a Ph.D. (1976) in materials science from Vanderbilt University. Prior to joining Cumberland, Eaton served as Vice President for Research, Senior Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and Provost at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He has also served as a professor at both Drexel and Louisiana State University.
