Stephen Coleman is Associate Professor of Music at Cumberland University, where he directs the marching and concert bands, and teaches courses in instrumental music education. Prior to this appointment, he directed the band program in the Tullahoma City School system for 20 years. Coleman has served as the president of the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu, a professional music education honor fraternity. He is a past president of the Tennessee Music Education Association, was the Tennessee state chair for the National Band Association, and is a member of the Da Capo Committee, a TMEA advisory board. Coleman is a member of the Tennessee Arts Academy Foundation Board and in 2011 will begin his tenure as board chairman. He has served as the Tennessee All-State General Chair, the State Music Conference Program Chair, and was a member of the Comprehensive Planning Commission that developed and implemented the restructuring plan for TMEA. He is a recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence, was a Tullahoma City Schools Teacher of the Year, and received the Friend of CMENC Award for his support of TMEA’s collegiate chapter. In 2009, both he and his wife Marion were inducted into the Tennessee Music Education Association Hall of Fame.
