Dr. Annette Allison has been an assistant professor of education at Cumberland University since 2001, where she teaches Reading Education courses in the MAE online program and was recently named the Head of the MAE Program at CU.

Prior to joining Cumberland, she taught history, special reading and first and second grades with both Ezell-Harding Christian School and the Metro Nashville Public School System.

Her teaching responsibilites at the university have included Developmental Reading, Diagnosis and Remediation Difficulties, Strategies for Reading and Language Arts in the Elementary Classroom, and Reading in the Content Areas. In addition, she coordinates the Young Authors Conference both for the university and the community. She views her chief mission as directing future elementary and secondary teachers in reading diagnosis, testing techniques, intervention, language arts strategies and conveying the joy of reading and writing.

A graduate of David Lipscomb University, Dr. Allison was the Teacher of the Year in 1992 for her Metro Nashville middle school. She was also involved in such activities as the school newspaper, class plays, and various writing contests.

Dr. Allison has served as a member of several groups, including the Teacher Education Committee, Developmental Studies, TACTE, STEA projects, YAC, The Graduate Council, SACS and NCATE.

In addition to a B.A. from David Lipscomb University, Dr. Allison holds a Masters of Education in Teaching degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Education degree from Vanderbilt University.
