Anna M. Davis joined Cumberland University in the Fall of 2016. Prior to that, she taught Honors Junior English for Memphis City Schools, and she taught English for six years at Shelby County Schools. She also was an instructor of English at Murray State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with concentrations in Language and Linguistics from the University of Memphis, as well as, a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of Memphis. 

Her teaching responsibilities at Cumberland include English Composition and Introduction to Literature.

Prior to moving to Nashville, Mrs. Davis traveled to numerous countries across Europe and South America. Notably, she taught English to Spanish speaking students at the University of Alicante in Alicante, Spain. She taught English for the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She received her TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certifications from both universities, and she studied the Spanish and Czech languages.

Additionally, the TN TESOL (Tennessee Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Newsletter (Winter 2014) published her article based on a piece of original research, Teaching the Alphabet and More: A Total Physical Response (TPR) Approach. For this same research, she earned the organization’s Overall Travel Grant Award. She was invited to present her research at local, district wide, state and regional conferences.

While teaching at Shelby County Schools, she presented frequently for district level professional development sessions. The district featured her in a citywide public relations campaign as an Irreplaceable Teacher, an honor bestowed upon only a select number of exceptional teachers. She aspires to continue this tradition of teaching excellence each day with the students of Cumberland University.  

Mrs. Davis resides in Nashville with her husband, Roy and their children, Ethan, Carson, and Allison. She enjoys spending time with her family and taking care of her dog, Lucky. She also loves writing short stories and traveling around the world.
