Dr. Finch joined Cumberland University in January, 2012 after serving as Program Manager for the Alliance to Reform Education Leadership (AREL) in the George W. Bush Institute in Dallas, Texas.  

She was a middle and high school principal for nine years in Nashville.  She has also taught for nine years in elementary, middle, and high school in North Carolina, Maine, and Tennessee.  During her principalship at Wright Middle School, this high ELL, low SES school achieved all A’s on the state report card in all core subject areas (Math, Reading, Science, & Social Studies.  Wright Middle School was selected by NASA to host Space Station Down link site as one of the three middle schools in the nation in 2007.  Stratford High School achieved the 95th percentile on 3 year average school effect in Algebra I and 99th percentile in Biology according to the Tennessee Value Added Report Card while she was the principal from 2007 to 2010.

She served as the Design Team Mentor Principal for PLAN (Principal Leadership Academy Nashville) in Vanderbilt.  She also is a PLAN graduate.   She visited Guangzhou South China Normal University, Guangzhou, China as part of ELLE (Educational Leadership Learning Exchange) program in 2006 and has hosted the Chinese exchange principals from Guangzhou for several years.  She served on the Mayor’s Task Force on Student Success as a Co-Chair and Mayor’s Special Education Advisory Council.  She received the Wheeler Award for Secondary School leadership in Peabody College, Vanderbilt and was awarded as a Jackson Scholar by the University Council of Education Administration.

She is married to Dr. Stephen Finch who is also an Education professor at Cumberland University and they have a daughter Stephanie who works in New York City.
