M.A., Fisk University

Hello, my name is Richard Garvin and I attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR. where I earned my Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Management. Shortly after graduation I attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN. where I earned my Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology. I am currently a PhD student at Trevecca Nazarene University with a focus in Clinical Counseling, Teaching and Supervision. I began teaching in higher education in 2011 at several different colleges and universities in the Nashville area with a focus in General and Abnormal Psychology before joining the adjunct faculty team here at Cumberland University.

I have worked in my field for over five years in several different capacities such as a residential therapist, independent living coach, and a private practice clinician. I am currently working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service Provision. My training includes but is not limited to Mental Health diagnoses, Individual therapy, Alcohol and Drug Addiction, and Group therapy. My private practice provides therapy for individuals, men, women, couples, and adolescents. Additionally, I provide specialized counseling for Individuals, Couples and Families seeking therapeutic services.

I hold membership in the American Counseling Association, American Psychological Association, and Society for the Teaching of Psychology.
