Adjunct Instructor of Art
BIOGRAPHY:

B.F.A., University of Tennessee
M.F.A., University of Hartford Sally Govan enjoys researching current graphic design and illustration trends. Her vast industry experience, including making the transition to graphic design with computers and designing for the screen as well as print, brings a strongly professional perspective to the classroom. As an art director for a national magazine publisher, Whittle Communications, she worked with renowned photographers and illustrators around the country and collaborated with top designers. One of her favorite experiences was lunching with some New Yorker cartoonists. She has often worked closely with pre-press professionals to supervise printing.  Throughout her career, she has continually made an effort to update skills: attending Milton Glaser’s summer design program at the School of Visual Arts; taking classes in multimedia and web design; completing an MFA in illustration in a program taught by nationally recognized professionals; studying data visualization at the University of California–Berkeley workshops; and attending recent national interactive design, illustration, and typography conferences. In her full-time job, she runs a one-stop design, marketing, and communication shop, designing and editing publications and websites for Middle Tennessee State University’s Jones College of Business. She has exhibited her fine art drawing and digital illustration in numerous solo and group exhibits. She enjoys seeing students’ innovative ideas, watching their progress, and providing them with the inspiration to be creative and the resources they need to be successful in today’s economy.
