Master of Arts in Education: Learn, Teach, and Inspire

As an educator, you have the power to inspire — inspire students’ desire to learn, and inspire other educators to be their best. A way to manifest that power is to earn an MAE degree from Cumberland University. Our education program has received the highest marks on the Tennessee Department of Education's Teacher Preparation Report Card for excellence in teacher preparation programs.

Cumberland’s online master’s in education is designed for licensed and currently practicing educators seeking to develop advanced skills in the classroom and expand their understanding of the field. Our flexible online program taught by expert full-time and currently teaching practitioner faculty combines the latest in instructional technology with theory and fieldwork for a well-rounded degree.

With Cumberland University’s online MAE program you will:

  • Earn an advanced, practitioner-focused degree in as little as one year.
  • Augment and expand your teaching skill set.
  • Discover innovative dimensions of learning.
  • Enhance your professional performance in the classroom.
  • Explore new tools to improve student outcomes.
  • Learn at your own pace — there are no required login times.
  • Network with educators and administrators from different schools — they are your classmates.

Courses & Course Plan
The MAE program is comprised of 10 courses for a total of 30 credit hours. Students choose four courses from an advanced educator core, and choose the remaining six courses based on personal professional development goals. Elective courses may be chosen from a variety of programs across the institution, even coursework beyond our educator preparation program. You can meet with a faculty member to discuss your professional aspirations and choose coursework that will help you meet your goals.

Coursework is offered in a variety of formats, including entirely online courses, hybrid courses (combining online coursework with a limited number of in-class meetings), and traditional on-campus courses. Offering times for class meetings are designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults. An entirely online option is available.

Cumberland offers a variety of add-on endorsements to diversify your licensure profile, which opens new doors to additional employment options. Please contact a faculty member in the educator preparation programs for details on add-on endorsements.
