Rain Plan

We will make every effort to conduct the 172nd Cumberland University Commencement on the traditional site of the front lawn in front of Memorial Hall. However, in a hard rain, if lightening occurs, or if there is excessive rain prior to the event, we will need to move the ceremony indoors to the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.

A decision will be made by 12:00 noon on Friday, May 9 regarding the implementation of the rain plan. To ensure a smooth transition in the event the ceremony is relocated, each graduate will be provided with six (6) tickets, one of these tickets will be required for the graduate to enter the facility, and the other five (5) tickets will be for family and friends. EVERYONE MUST HAVE a complimentary "rain plan" ticket for entry.  No one will be allowed to enter without a ticket. All degree candidates will receive their tickets when they pick-up their cap and gown at the bookstore in Labry Hall May 5 - 9.

Candidates for graduation should report at 8:30 AM dressed in regalia, and enter through the front entrance of the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center. Candidates will need to locate their seat and stay seated, to allow room for guests entering the building.

Guests of students may enter the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center at 9:00 AM, through the front entrance. Tickets will be collected upon entry.  No one may enter the building without a rain ticket.   Your cooperation is very important.  There is no re-entry into the building, please share this information with your guests.

Those guests who do not have tickets may go to Baird Chapel in Memorial Hall, or to the Heydel Fine Arts Center, where the event will be broadcast live. Tickets will NOT be required for admission into these venues; however seating will be on a first- come, first-serve basis. Please check the website regularly for further information concerning the rain plan.
