Cumberland University Releases 2007-08 Women's Basketball Schedule
Lady Bulldogs to battle Vanderbilt University on Oct. 31
The Cumberland University Women's Basketball team has released their schedule for the 2007-08 season. The schedule is highlighted by two exhibitions against NCAA Division I opponents Vanderbilt University and Southeast Missouri -- two teams who reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Lady Bulldogs will open their season with a trip to Nashville to take on the Lady Commodores on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
"We are grateful to Coach (Melanie) Balcomb and Vanderbilt University for giving us the opportunity to play a SEC powerhouse who has a rich tradition in women's basketball," Cumberland University Head Coach Clint Mason said.
Cumberland will open its regular season schedule with the University of Mobile on Nov. 2 as part of the Lionbacker Classic at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. Other non-conference games include contests against Houston Baptist University, Berry College and NAIA Division II National Runner-up College of the Ozarks.
The Lady Bulldogs will once again compete in the TranSouth Athletic Conference, which is widely regarded as the best conference in NAIA Women's Basketball. The conference sent five teams to the national tournament last year, and three of those teams made an appearance in the NAIA Final Four. The Lady Bulldogs are coming off the best season in school history, where they finished 27-8 and reached the NAIA National Championship game.
"We are hoping that this non-conference schedule will prepare us for conference play and a trip back to the national tournament for a fourth straight year," Mason commented.
